So, got some goodies, and another big one is on the way...
Picked up a stupid clean mk2 GTI grille yesterday with new fogs, and got this lil thang in the mail...
Horn button isn't attached, which is why it looks broken.
And Sunday (or Thursday), I'll be making a little road trip in the Rabbit to pick up a new addition to the fleet.
Diesel, 4sp, awesome. Some rust and whatnot, but who cares.

Where did you get that wheel? I've been looking for a wheel like that for my car since I got it.

Found it in a local VW fb page, the Novadubs Classifieds. Didn't include the hub though, and just got an email from OMP saying it'll be EIGHT FREAKING WEEKS before it ships.

the wheel is awesome! what is it going into?

looks to be a standard 6 hole, perhaps a non-OMP brand would work?
![]() 10/10/2014 at 13:31 |

possibly. I'm looking around for a used hub local, so I can test fit. I think MOMO would work, don't know many other brands.

probably the rabbit, haha. It's a westie, although most of the interior is a mishmash. I wanted a smaller diameter wheel, and I'll be converting the interior to black at some point. It's navy right now, but the dash and carpets are rough. Driver's seat has a hole in it, too.

sounds perfect

haha, I love it. Once I get the Caddy down to VA and clean it up, there will definitely be a VW family photoshoot, haha. Wife drives the MK7 GTI, so we're beginning quite a collection.
Next project will likely be aircooled, too.

I was very close to purchasing a diesel rabbit for my daily, but when we went to see it in person the wife was very turned off by the torn up interior.
happy wife, happy life = no early 80s VW for monkey

haha! That would be ace.
where do you live? There's a gorgeous 4-door 1984 Rabbit diesel, 4sp, with the same OE VW roof rack as mine, for sale in MD right now. I think he's asking like 4500$, but you could probably work him down. I paid 3k for my 2dr, which was diesel but now has a 2.0aba instead

oh damn. That's a little far, haha.
I have a friend out near Colorado Springs into VWs, so I do check your Craigslist occasionally for him, haha. I'll post it up if I find something awesome

haha, thanks! I'm itching to get it installed.

noticed you said you picked it up on novadubs. I'm in NoVa too!
Can't wait to see it installed. I wouldn't mind throwing one on a E36.

haha, nice! you ever come to Cars and Coffee at Katie's?
Also, I work at Lindsay VW in Sterling, so if you have a VW or want one, stop by! haha

LUCKY! I want a VW Caddy so bad... I would love a 5spd diesel. Yours is a great color!

there are plenty around!
It actually includes a 5sp trans, along with tons of other parts. I'll probably swap it in a few weeks.
also, I do like the color, haha. it was originally a light blue, so the interior doesn't match, but I'll fix it later.

Yeah, don't change that green! I fell in love with the Caddy when I first saw one this summer. A FWD truck would be good in the winter too. I know diesels aren't the best in the winter, but as long as it starts I'll be good. I'm really considering one.

Yeah I've gone a couple times, I'd love to go back soon but I'm always working Saturday/Sunday mornings. Fair lakes C&C is closer to my house too.
I'm still in high school, so it's unlikely I'll be picking up a new gti anytime soon haha, but my sister is getting a car this spring/summer. Budget around $16k, definitely likes the newer Jettas. I'll be sure to send my parents towards you guys.

awesome, thanks! I appreciate it.
fun fact: our oktoberfest is going on 12-5 today, in case you wanted to swing by!

picked up the caddy, finally. quite the saga - post coming Monday. ;)

Cool! Tell Oppo how it goes. I'm interested to see how 4th gear is on the highway. If it's tolerable, I'd consider getting a 4spd. Right now I've been narrowing my search to 5spd caddys since I do a lot of highway miles.

Will do!
Are you looking at gas or diesel? It's a pretty simple swap to 5sp - I actually have an extra 5sp diesel trans from a Jetta I may put in it.

Awesome- looking forward to an update! I'm looking for a gas engine caddy, but all the ones I can find around me are diesel. It'll be a winter car and a hauler for the rest of the year. I know nothing about diesels but I hear they aren't so good in the winter time.
![]() 10/19/2014 at 15:42 |

To be honest, I'd recommend the diesel. As long as you use some fuel additive in the winter, it'll far outperform the gas.
Also, some of the diesels come with a block heater!

Really? Well I guess I'll expand my search then...
